KENDAL Triathlon Club member and resident Sally Ozanne dominated the field when she competed on the world stage in the Patagonian Expedition Race, famously billed as ‘The Last Wild Race’, in Chile.
The event takes teams of four into the wilds of Chilean Patagonia through unexplored lands covering hundreds of kilometres often without seeing another person and only receiving minimal assistance to resupply food and equipment.
Kendal Tri’s Ozanne, racing for Team Adidas TERREX Prunesco, led the field from the start and finished an impressive 24 hours ahead of the second place team in nine days, six hours and 55 minutes.
The British based team battled the challenging courses, competitive and experienced teams and the wild Patagonia weather to achieve their fifth win in a row in the annual event.
The 2013 race was the longest to date with the team taking eight days of non stop racing to reach the finish line in Punta Arenas and completing an epic 701km journey by means of trekking across glaciers, through dense woodland and wetlands, mountain biking, and kayaking, surviving off only a few hours sleep.
