For the third straight year, the Hurricanes football team will have a new look.
While some of their previous new uniforms have had flashier, more modern elements, this collection is intended to invoke memories of uniforms past, prompting Adidas to dub it the “Legend of the U.”
The uniforms, which the Hurricanes will wear for the first time on Oct. 8 when they host Florida State, feature block lettering on the name plate, as well as block numbers and stripes on the shoulder in Miami’s school colors of orange, green and white.
“The retro style uniforms were designed as a nod to the legacy and domination of the teams from the 80s and 90s,
which saw the Hurricanes win four national championships,” Adidas and Miami said in a joint statement describing the uniforms, which were unveiled at an event on campus at Miami’s Rathskeller on Monday afternoon. “Attention to detail was crucial to replicate a retro look, and during the research phase of the design, jersey numbers, stripes and logos were precisely measured from archival products worn by the Hurricanes to create an accurate execution of the design elements.”
“As far as these unis are concerned, I kind of like them. They remind me of back in my day,” Richt told the crowd after the uniforms had been unveiled. “Just to be here today means a lot. I didn’t know we’d have this type of crowd. To see the new uniforms come out, I think our players are going to love them and I hope everybody supports it.”.
