adidas f50 adizero messi John Hosner Story
Age is merely a number when it comes to running. At least for 81 year old John Hosner, the retired head of the College of Natural Resources. Hosner is an avid runner and has held various national and world records for competitive running.
Although he ran track in high school, it wasn?t until the late 1970s that Hosner realized he had a talent for distance running. After setting a state record for his age group in a 10K race,
Hosner competed in a second, more challenging race, running from Lexington to Buena Vista,
where he beat his own record by two minutes.
Hosner continued competing in races, often beating men far younger than him. The Adidas footwear company received word of his talents, and offered him a sponsorship. For a few years they provided shoes,
clothes and travel to various races along the East Coast. Hosner has even competed in events on the Virginia Tech campus and beaten runners who were 35 years old. Ironically, Hosner never even owned a stopwatch.
Currently, Hosner runs nearly every day,
clocking in at 30 35 miles each week. He is still active in competition, racing in the local southwest Virginia area. Hosner enjoys many aspects of racing.
?I like the competition of a race, but I also like the socializing. I ran every other week and got to know people well. You socialize with other runners while waiting for awards to be given,
? Hosner said.
